Chat with your team and tenants
Start a one-to-one chat, reply, edit or delete a message, and read the unread badges.
Before you start
Chats are one-to-one conversations inside OneView. Use them for a quick question to a colleague or a tenant, without leaving the app.
- Every member of your team can chat, whatever their role.
- You can write to the active members of your organization and to its tenants. You can't write to yourself, to a suspended team member, or to someone with no link to your organization.
- A chat belongs to the organization you started it in. If you work in more than one, each has its own list.
- Group chats are not available. Each chat is between two people.
- Messages are plain text.
1. Start a chat
In the menu, select Chats, then New Chat. In Recipients, search by name or email and pick the person. Select Start chat.
If you already have a chat with that person, OneView opens it instead of creating a second one.
2. Write and send
Type in the box that says "Type a message..." and use the send arrow. To answer a particular message, open its menu and select Reply. The reply shows the message it answers.
The menu is the three dots that appear when you hover a message with a mouse (More actions). On a phone, press and hold the message.
Text you typed but did not send is saved as a draft when you click away, and comes back when you reopen the chat.
3. Edit or delete a message
You can only change your own messages. Open the message's menu, then:
- Edit: available for 15 minutes after you sent it. Change the text and select Save. The message then shows "edited".
- Delete: available at any time. Select it, tick any other messages you want to remove, select Delete in the bar at the bottom and confirm. Select Cancel to back out.
What happens next
The other person sees your message straight away if the chat is open, and otherwise as unread:
- On the Chats menu entry, a red badge counts the chats that have unread messages. It updates when you open a new page.
- In the chat list, a badge on the person's picture counts their unread messages in that chat, up to 99+. It updates live.
Opening a chat clears its badge. A deleted message is replaced by "This message was deleted" for both of you.
A chat message does not send an email, a WhatsApp message or a push notification. Nobody hears about it until they open OneView.
Common problems
I can't find the person I want to write to
The search only lists active members of your organization and its tenants, by name or email. A suspended colleague, a person who has not been added as a tenant yet, and you yourself do not appear. Check that you are in the right organization.
Can I create a group chat?
Not at the moment. Start one chat per person.
The Edit option has disappeared
A message can be edited for 15 minutes only. After that you can delete it and send a corrected one.
Can I delete a message someone else sent?
No. Everyone deletes their own messages only, whatever their role.
The badge in the menu did not change
The menu badge is recalculated each time a page loads. Open any page, or the chat itself, and it catches up.
